Clee Fields & Tennis Courts Project

Clee Fields

The Clee Fields project will see the creation of a football ‘hub’ on land in Grimsby, thanks to an injection of money from the Premier League, The FA and Government’s Football Foundation.

A total of £4.9m has been invested into the site, including £1.5m of funding from The Football Foundation, along with the money from the Council’s capital projects budget.

Construction is nearing completion on two new 3G pitches, both suitable for football and one suitable for rugby, laid to replace the old turf pitches that have been out of use for several years. The new pitches will be able to be used all year round.

Also, as part of the project, new changing facilities will be created alongside a larger car park and additional security fencing. Air source heat pumps, solar panels and LED lighting will be used in the scheme as part of the Council’s ongoing pledge to reduce carbon output in its projects.

The development of Clee Fields is part of the Council’s commitment under the Playing Pitch Strategy. This pledges to give all residents the opportunity to access sports pitches and facilities to support being active, whilst some urban land is made available for regeneration.

Tennis Courts Project

North East Lincolnshire Council in partnership with the Lawn Tennis Association have invested £255,000 into three sites which has helped ensure the number of quality tennis facilities available for the local community.

The three site are Sussex Recreation Ground, Barretts Recreation Ground, and Haverstoe Park.

Tennis courts have undergone a range of improvements, including; installation of a booking/gate access system, resurfacing works, new line markings, new nets and the addition of new perimeter fencing at Barretts Recreation Ground.
