A FURTHER step towards the regeneration of Cleethorpes begins on Monday, February 10, with work starting to transform the busy resort pathways along Alexandra Road.
For approximately two months, a one-way system will operate along the road to allow a safe working environment as the paving along the Pier Gardens side is replaced with York stone.
The new Alexandra Road paving work will begin on Monday, February 10, and run until Thursday, April 9 – ensuring completion before the Easter weekend. During this time, a one-way system will operate southbound only for vehicles along Alexandra Road between Sea Road and Knoll Street – towards Knoll Street. Northbound traffic will be diverted down Knoll Street (there will no right turn into Knoll Street from southbound traffic or left turn out), Cambridge Street and St Peter’s Avenue.
The following traffic changes will also apply during this time:
- Albert Road will be made one-way from St Peter’s Avenue to Alexandra Road – a redesign that will be permanent at the end of the works, as outlined when the major Cleethorpes’ works were unveiled;
- There will be no exit from Dolphin Street to Alexandra Road during the works;
- There will be no right turn in or left turn out of Albert Road, Yarra Road and the Civic Offices entrances on to Alexandra Road;
- The parking bays on the Pier Gardens side of Alexandra Road will be taken out of use for the duration of this phase of the project and there will be limited pedestrian access across to the Pier Gardens. Temporary bus lay-bys will be in place and the parking and loading space on the shop side will remain as it is.
This latest work has financial support from the Coastal Communities Fund (CCF) and the LTP, (Local Transport Plan), and is part of a multi-million-pound overhaul of the resort masterminded by North East Lincolnshire Council and managed by its regeneration partner ENGIE.
The council’s regeneration lead, Cllr John Fenty, thanked people for their patience as the works continue.
“While we do appreciate the level of works in Cleethorpes has created inconvenience and some delays, we know that the vast majority of people understand the importance of continually improving what we have,” said Cllr Fenty.
“We are trying to make sure that the works are carried out as quickly as possible whilst maintaining safety to minimise their impact. Over the last few years we have been incredibly successful in winning vital grant funding for large elements of this work. We are fortunate to have this opportunity and we are confident that, in the coming years, we will reap the benefits in terms of increased visitor numbers and trade. This, of course, benefits the whole of North East Lincolnshire,” he added.
