Corporation Road Bridge update: bridge lift planned

1:11 pm, Thursday, 30th March 2023

Works on Corporation Road Bridge are well underway. The asphalt surface of the bridge and the concrete carriageway deck has been removed down to its steel plates. The steel deck plates have been shot blasted and detailed inspections are now taking place.

A bridge lift is due to be undertaken on Wednesday 5 April, between 9am and 4pm, during which time, the footpath on the bridge will be closed to all pedestrians and cyclists. Temporary signs will be erected and people will be diverted, and a marshal will be onsite during the closure.

The purpose of the bridge lift is to carry out weight testing to help assist specialist contractor Spencer Group with the weight balancing design works.

Following the bridge weight test, the next section of works will be to the deck, which includes repair and replacement of the steel deck plates.

As part of its Grade 2 listed heritage status, it is important the bridge remains functioning and the mechanics are in full operation to ensure the council is satisfying the statutory obligations. The lifting span is functional and is required by an Act of Parliament to lift upon certain requests.

The Corporation Bridge restoration is a £5.117m scheme – funded by £2.967m from the Department for Transport, £1.83m set aside by the council and a further £320,000 from the Local Transport Fund. The Department for Transport funding is specifically ringfenced for these works.

North East Lincolnshire Council, its delivery partner, Equans and contractor Spencer Group would like to thank the public for their patience whilst the work is being undertaken.
