DISCOVER ‘THE STUDIO’ AND IMMERSIVE INSTALLATIONS FROM MYENERGI AND RWE
It’s finally arriving… Projekt Renewable lands in Alexandra Dock next week! After two years and £300,000 in funding, three containers and a shed-load of opportunity will touchdown in Grimsby.
Supported by myenergi, RWE Renewables UK and the Town Deal, next week the sun will rise on an entirely different landscape in Grimsby’s familiar Alexandra Dock. Uniting the area’s future and past, situated next door to an icon of Grimsby’s history – the Fishing Heritage Centre – and run largely on solar power, the arrival of this ground-breaking scheme promises not only to celebrate the opportunities presented by sustainable energy production in the area but act as a catalyst for bridging the gap between the industry and the local community, showcasing exactly how versatile, accessible and promising renewables is, for everyone.
Arriving 4 months ahead of schedule, with an original landing date of December 2023, it is hoped that Projekt Renewable will be an aspirational beacon for Grimsby and beyond. With the potential to extend and evolve, to suit the demands of both the local community and the renewable champions operating within the area, Projekt will further solidify North Lincolnshire and the Humber region as the UK’s thriving renewables hub.
Projekt Director, Richard Askam, added: “Just over 2 years ago I was tasked with developing a catalyst project that shines a bright light on Grimsby’s future prospects and I’m more than a little bit excited to see it come to life next week.”
Leader of North East Lincolnshire Council, Cllr Philip Jackson, said: “To see this structure landing in a popular public space in Grimsby Town Centre is fantastic. The renewables sector and its growth in North East Lincolnshire offers us so much and it is vital that young people, and their families, are provided an opportunity to see what is on offer. We can all be inspired by it.”
Through two immersive installations and two further flexible, educational and broadcasting spaces, this first phase of Projekt Renewable – delivered by WhiteCrate, the UK’s leading container architecture design and production company – promises to open the door to local students, creatives, businesses and community groups.
The duo of installations come from RWE and myenergi and will take over the green container. Split equally between the two renewable giants, this dedicated space will allow each business to talk about their products and the myriad of opportunities that exist locally within the sustainability sector, very clearly demonstrating that ‘it’s not just for engineers’.
Myenergi and myacademi
In a space designed to make discovering renewables as accessible as possible, myenergi will be showcasing its products and the journey the company has been on. With a Zappi installed on-site for visitors to explore – to see how it looks and feels in real-life – myenergi’s space will be breaking down any barriers that surround eco-tech. The award-winning business will also be using the space to showcase the myenergi academi, emphasising that jobs in renewables far outreach only engineering. A plasma screen will also be installed for myenergi to utilise.

RWE Renewables UK
Bringing to life what it’s really like to be offshore, but in an onshore setting, through VR RWE will be bringing offshore living to life. Don the VR goggles, position yourself on the guide footprints and handrail and look out to sea. Here you’ll be transported out of the container, across the water’s ripping surface and into RWE’s state-of-the-art operations hub at Grimsby’s Royal Dock. Experience offshore without venturing off dry land, and discover all the opportunities that can be found in careers with RWE. This space will also feature a plasma screen for RWE to make use of.

The Studio
Dedicated to the future of broadcasting, The Studio will be home to Projekt’s very own podcast hub. With two sets of equipment having been donated, the Projekt team will be working with local businesses and schools to support the production of both video and audio-only podcasts. Designed to be a fully flexible space, all the furniture will be foldable or on castors so it can be configured to suit the needs of anyone that has booked the space.
Looking ahead to the next phase of Projekt, and the £500,000 funding target of Phase Two, engagement with schools and colleges will be key and centred around The Studio. Led by Richard, students will be encouraged to use the space to record their own podcasts and beam the content back into their school classrooms. Projekt Renewable patrons and ambassadors will also be taking part in ‘The Projekt Podcast’, which will shine a light on the reason Projekt exists and why the patrons are involved. Leading on the podcast will be Finley Gray, a broadcasting student from Frankin College – the first of many Renewable Champions the Projekt team is looking to get involved in outputs from The Studio. A showcase for how the local community can create user-generated content, powerful in its own right, allowing the people to ‘own’ the space and connect with it on a deeper level.
Into the blue
Last but not least, the third and final container of phase one – the blue container – will act as a meeting and workshop space. Complete with desks, chairs and screens, this space will be bookable with no fee, if the work you’re looking to complete aligns in some way to the renewable ethos of the Projekt.
Once on site, work will continue on the three containers with some of the features needing retrofitting on arrival. Keep up-to-date with all installation updates over on Instagram and Tiktok next week, where the Projekt team will be going Live as the containers arrive.
With phase one reaching its conclusion, thoughts turn to the next phase and what that will mean for Projekt and the local area. Aside from raising additional funds to the sum of £500,000, Phase Two will see weekly networking events in partnership with some incredible local businesses launch, bookings for the container work and studio spaces open and a vertical farming installation explained.
Created to inspire young minds and the local community, the launch and summer programme are just the beginning of what will be an ever-evolving narrative.
