Cleethorpes Market Place

Market Square acts as a link between St Peter’s Avenue, and the pier and promenade. It has the bones of a traditional market square, but this has been lost, with its primary use currently being a car park.

The Square has the potential to become a vibrant public space, with weekly markets and alfresco dining. Rejuvenating it adds space for social interaction, reconnecting our busy seafront and town centre, creating jobs, and boosting the economy.

This project will provide a safer, healthier, more pleasant environment for pedestrians, encouraging a circular route from the seafront through the Market Place, to the town centre.

This scheme proposes major improvements to the square and reintroduction of a functioning historic marketplace.

North East Lincolnshire Council has been awarded £18.4m of Levelling Up Funding (LUF) to transform Cleethorpes seafront: regenerating Pier Gardens, reintroducing the historic Market Place and delivering a multi-use, tourism-focused landmark building on Sea Road. The three projects will enhance key assets that support the whole community, creating opportunities, and making it more attractive to a broader selection of local people.
