Shop local & free parking on Small Business Saturday

1:17 pm, Tuesday, 3rd December 2019

This December sees the return of Small Business Saturday, a national campaign which raises awareness of the benefits of shopping locally.

Small Business Saturday, on 7 December, is once again supported by North East Lincolnshire Council who have pledged to waive parking charges in the majority of council-run car parks for the day.

The aim is to encourage people to shop locally and to attract additional trade to the town centres in the run-up to Christmas.

As part of the national initiative, the majority of the council’s car parks will offer free parking on Saturday 7 December as part of the annual UK-wide campaign (*except Cleethorpes Leisure Centre, the Boating Lake and Thrunscoe Land). No ticket is required to be displayed.

The day was introduced to support local retailers and encourage spending with small, independent businesses that have less than 50 employees.

More than 97 per cent of businesses in North East Lincolnshire are classed as small enterprises.

Spending just some of your weekly shopping budget with a local business can make a huge impact on the local economy and on that small business.

Business owners can visit www.smallbusinesssaturdayuk.com to register their business on the website and download their marketing pack.

Shoppers and businesses are encouraged to include the hashtag #SmallBizSatUK on social media to highlight their support for the campaign.
